■ ATTACK WITHIN FEW WEEKS I
SINISTER REFERENCE TO NORWAY. I'By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, January 9. The German radio announces that England intends to “invade Eire through Ulster within the next few weeks." The German announcement is careful not to state where the rumour comes from, but adds that if this should happen, Germany will react in the same way as in the case of Norway.
ULSTER’S LOYALTY FORCES ON A VOLUNTARY BASIS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY. January 8. The Premier of Northern Ireland. Mr. J. M. Andrews, made a statement recalling that the Government of Northern Ireland had made strong representations to the British Cabinet at the time conscription was introduced in the United Kingdom that it should be extended to Northern Ireland. For reasons which appeared sufficient to the British Ministers, recruiting for the war was continued in Northern Ireland on a voluntary basis. Ulstermen were serving in large numbers and with great distinction in all the fighting forces, said Mr. Andrews. and he pointed out that tne Parliament of Northern Ireland was debarred from exacting compulsory military service.
Mr. Andrews also emphasised that the Government of Northern Ireland was not a party to the transfer of ports to Eire in 1938—a measure to which it was at that time opposed.
