Some of them were bearded. The Governor-General and Lady Gowrie were present. Archbishop Mowll conducted the service. In his address the Archbishop ■ expressed horror at what those on the 10 ships sunk by enemy raiders in the last few weeks had passed through, and admiration for their great courage and powers of endurance. He paid homage to the memory of those who had not returned mentioning the names of seven known to have been killed, "Lloyd Hughes, second oilicer of the Komata. killed on his ship, was in this cathedral on October 20," said the Archbishop. “Miss Una Scott, killed on the Rangitane. in her last letter to us. said it was hard to realise that her job in charge of evacuee children was finished and that she was on her way home." Archbishop Mowll said'that Mr. A. Tocher, evacuee children’s escort, missing from the Rangitane. had made a deep impression on all who entertained him in New Zealand. He was a retired bank manager and an elder of the Church of Scotland. The Archbisop called on those present not to forget, the two wounded sisters of St. Vincent’s Hospital, all others suffering from wounds and privation. the missing, and those still prisoners of war. "The Rod Cross has done much to supply survivors with things they need,” conculded Archbishop Mowll. "Private individuals may be glad to show their sympathy in practical ways and share in the work.” Among those who attended was the Premier. Mr. Mair.
