A special correspondent of the Greek newspaper "Ethnos.” describing a visit to Australian sailors writes: "Why ts it that for so many generations they remain, so steadfastly loyal to the idea of Empire? ’lt is not only the sentimental reasons of the common bonds: of language and blood that unite us.’i answers tin officer. 'England is ouri mother country. We have kept sol many spiritual bonds with her. but a big percentage of our population is not of British extraction. Canada has a' great number of French and South Africa is full of Boers. Australia has emigrants from al! over the world. "But today we are sighting for the' Empire and the Empire has a clear! and distinct material meaning to all! inhabitants of the Dominions. Within the fold of the Empire wo have found wonderful prosperity. I have heard it said that England expoits us arid sucks us dry. Rot.' 1 need only tell you that the incomes per head of the inhabitants of Australia. New Zealand and Canada are greater than those of the mother countrv.' ”
