AGAINST STRIKE
DECISION OF MEN*. DISPUTE AT FREEZING WORKS. ■By Telegraph—Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH. January 7. A decision against an immediate strike was made yesterday by the C interim ry Freezing Workers' and Related Trades Union, which met to consiaer the dispute whicn arose immediately the works opened for the season over the refusal of T. Borthwick and Sons to engage a certain man at their Belfast works. A resolution was carried referring the dispute to the Federation ci Labour and the Minister for Labour. Mr Webb, so that a tribunal might be set up under the Strikes and Lockouts Emergency Regulations. The dispute was originally referred to the works efficiency council, one ot which was set up during the winter at each works in New Zealand, but r.i settlement was reached. Later, it was referred to a sitting of a National Disputes Committee in Christchurch over which the liaison officer of ,he Labour Department, Mr C L. Hunter, presided, but no decision -was reached on that occasion either. The company, it is reported, bases its refusal to engage the man on the management clause in the award. Work is going on normally at the works, where deliveries of stock are heavy because of the dry weather.
