Kindergarten’s History.

Ono ;i previous occasion the story was related how Kincardine, the sire of Kindergarten, the winner of the Great Northern Derby, owing to rather doubtful use for stud purposes, camo out to New Zealand as a mate for another stallion. Apparently the change revitalised Kincardine and it is interesting to note that when Kindergarten won the Great Northern Derby in 2rnin 31 sec he established a classic record for both Australia and New Zealand. This country has been greatly enriched i by stallions practically put into the disI card in England. These include Musket I and Soult. two of the most successful j sires ever identified with the turf. Even the very successful Beau Pore was a ! discard in England, where he was sold at 100 guineas. As a two-year-old Kindergarten. after two unplaced performances. won three on end. but missed a place in his final start. This season prior to the .Auckland Cup meeting. Kindergarten opened with a third, two seconds and two wins. The record for the New Zealand Derby is jointly held by Runnymedc. who won in 2min 31 l-ssec in 1925. and Bronze Eagle, who won in the same time in 1931. Fieldspar won the Victoria Derby in 2min 31 {sec. which equalled the race record put up by Hall Mark in 1933. Manfred and Phar Lap won in 2min 31'.sec, and the latter holds the record for the A.J.C. Derby at 2min 31 '.see. Kincardine was got by Gay Crusader—Sundrilla by Sundridge —Yalta by Ariskfield's Pride—Malte by St. Simon—Mischief by Hampton. Valadore, the dam of Kindergarten, was got by Valkyrian—Adornment by The Nut—Elegance, by Seaton Dcluval —Antelope, by Aprcmont—Miss Kate arid belongs to the same family as Phar Lap. The sire and dam of Kindergarten both belong to the No. 2 family which, of course is also Phar Lap’s member. Notable members of the No. 2 Family include Carbine. Cremorne <English Derby, Gold Prix de Paris*, Crucifix 'One Thousand Guineas, Two Thousand Guineas. Oaks). Dutch Oren <St. Leger). Lord Clifden <St. Leger mid sire of Hampton).
