OBITUARY MR HENRY WALDEN. — : The death occurred at the Lewisham I Hospital. Wellington, yesterday of Mr ■ Henry Walden. J.P.. an old and respected citizen of Greytown. The late Mr Walden, who was 80 years of age. | came to Grey town as a young man | and joined the firm of Messrs J. Cas- : elberg and Co., now the W.F.C.A., as j manager of the drapery department and continued in the firm till about ten years ago, when he retired. Mr Walden had taken a keen interest in j ( till the affairs of the town. He was I j a member of the Greytown School' Committee for over thirty years and; was congratulated by the Wellington Education Board on his long and i faithful service. He was at the times of his death a trustee of the Greytown ' Town Lands Trust, and was also an I active member of the Bowling Club, j As a boy he joined the volunteers at Timaru. He was a Keen rifle shot, and; despite his age, continued to act as! secretary of the Greytown Rifle Club ' He had been a member of St Luke's) Choir fur 50 years, and also served on ' the vestry for many years. He is' survived by one daughter. Mrs E. G.l Thomas (Wellington) and four sons. Messrs Jasper (Riverton). Eric (Aus-! tralia). Roland (Greymouth) and' Stuart Walden (Foxion).
BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS There was a good attendance of bowlers at the Greytown green at the weekend. Playing for tlic McLeod Button. l , Skeel and Kiernan defeated the holders, Campbell and Reid. In the second game Skeet and Kiernan beat Brown and Dewhirst after a close game. In Gold Bar games, the holders (Brunton and Kilgour) were challenged by Higgison and Carter and then by Campbell and Dennes. but won both games. I Personal Items.
