GRAIN AND PRODUCE
CANTERBURY MARKETS. VERY LITTLE BUSINESS. ißy Telegraph—Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH. January 3. As many of the grain and produce ofl'ices are still closed, very little business is passing in any line. A few samples of ryegrass have been offered and some oats have made their appearance. but it is too early yet to name even tentative values. It is probable that the markets this season will take b nger than normal to settle down to some basis of values. There arc stocks of almost al! lines, though these are not heavy, but the main hesitancy arises from the fact that crops of till sorts promise to be exceptionally heavy. Nature has been bountiful, and beside this there has been a good response to the Govern-j menl's appeal to increase production of. all kinds. It is unlikely, therefore, that! prices will be established for some I weeks.
