THE BOMBING OF EIRE
OFFICIAL PROTEST MADE TO GERMANY. DEMAND FOR REPARATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON. January 3. There was no damage ami nobody was injured.
Newspapers give prominence to what is described as a deliberate air raid on Eire. This they support by recalling that the absence of the black-out makes it impossible for the Germans to mistake the country, as the lights the towns and villages must shine like beacons against the darkness of the rest of Britain. The attacks were made along a 100-mile line on the eastern side of Eire, giving the impression that the raiders swept down the coastal regions. keeping the Irish Sea on one flank. y It is officially announced in Dublin that three bombs were dropped 400 yards outside Ballyrummin, County Wexford, on Thursday night. There were no fatalities and no damage. Thus bombs were dropped in Eire for the second night in succession.
The Eireann Charge d’Aflaires in Berlin has been instructed to protest against the German bombing of Eire and to demand full reparation and a guarantee against a recurrence of the bombing, the 8.8. C. states. There had been bombing raids on Eire on three previous occasions. In August last three people were killed and Germany admitted liability.
FURY IN DUBLIN MORE BOMBS DROPPED HOUSES WRECKED AND PEOPLE INJURED. LONDON. January 3. Bombs were dropped on Dublin at 4 a.m.. wrecking a number of houses and damaging others in Donorc Terrace. Police and soldiers rescued eight persons, some of them seriously injured. It is believed that others are still buried in debris. The Dublin correspondent of the "Daily Mail” says that growing indignation in Eire against the German atI tacks rose to a fury after yesterday’s bombing, which extended over six counties. Many people are asking whether this is the beginning of intensive raids. The Prime Minister. Mr. de Valera, visited the bombed areas in Dublin, and he intends to protest strongly to Berlin. A complete blackout is under consideration and inquiry will also be made as to why the anti-aircraft guns failed to go into action and why the sirens were not sounded. , Another bomb was dropped in Dublin at 9 a.m. CAUTION LN LONDON BOMBINGS NOT UNDERSTOOD. An unidentified plane, flying in a straight line in a northerly direction, dropped a stick of bombs nt 4 a.m. This was Eire’s third air raid in twenty-four hours.
