DEATH FOR TRAITORS
AUSTRALIAN MINISTER’S WARNING INFORMATION CONVEYED TO NAZI RAIDERS. NEUTRAL SHIP MAY HAVE BEEN RESPONSIBLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright' CANBERRA. January 3. A warning that he would do his utmost to have the death penalty carried out on anyone found co-operating with the Nazi raiders in the Pacific was given by the Minister of the Navy and Attor-ney-General. Mr Hughes. “It seems evident that the raiders knew exactly where and at what times to look for their victims.” he said. “As far as we are aware we effectively suppressed every unauthorised radio station in Australia. It is possible. however, that a neutral ship operating outside Australian waters is able to radio the movements of Australian and New Zealand ships to the raiders, and if this is so it may be difficult to detect the offender. “The matter demonstrates how very important it is for all people to keep anything they may hear about shipping movements strictly to themselves." Any traitor who believed be .would get merely a term of imprisonment. Mr Hughes declared, was very much mistaken.
