The Southland Racing Club’s summer meeting was concluded today in hot. sunny weather, the track being hard and fast. There was a good attendance. The totalisator handled £20.739 10s, compared with £18.936 10s on the second day last year, an increase of £lBO3. The totalisator figures for the two days were £43,713 10s, against £38,378 10s last year, an increase of £5335. G. Hamill, rider of Fleet Street in the Flying Handicap on the first day. was found guilty of interfering with Lord Nuffield, and was suspended for two months. Successful Family. Route March, winner of the Great Northern Foal Stakes, at the Royal Stakes at Auckland, is a half-brother by Vaals to On Parade and Royal Appellant. This is the successful March family, whose notable winners include Te Kara. Malatour, Queen March. King March. Gay Marigold. Limarch, Birthday Boy, and others.
Treble in Sight. The Trentham trainer, T. R. George, has already captured the New Zealand Cup and the Auckland Cup this season with Serenata and Beau Vile respectively, and the stable will rely on Screnata again to complete the big treble in the Wellington Cup next month.
Viceroy's Cup. The Winalot horse Finalist, winner the last two years, was beaten in this i year's Viceroy's Cup. one mile and three-quarters, run at Calcutta on Boxing Day, by Baqlava. winner of last year's King-Emperor's Cup. one mile, [with Coeus (Truculent—Red May) third. Baqlava is a brown geldmg bred by H.H. the Aga Khun, and is by the Two Thousand Guineas winner Tetratema out of Blanc Mange, a haT?sister by Hainauit to Blandford. He is owned by Mr G. N. Musry. who formerly raced in India as "Mr Dianond." Burra Sahib. Burra Sahib, winner of the Nursery Handicap at Ellerslie, is a bay colt by Bulandshar out of the Arausio —Hoy mare Provence, who did not race, but was half-sister to Anomaly, Snatcher. Shirley. King's Jest, and Penclophon. so the breeding is there. He is a halfbrother himself to the disappointing and now defunct Le Toquet. Wellington Handicap.
