GOLDEN WEDDING

MR. & MRS. W. WHITE. CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATION. A very enjoyable gathering took place on Christmas Day at the home of Mr and Mrs B. Douglas, Haumoana, Hawke’s Bay. when members of the family and old friends met to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the wedding of Mr and Mrs W. White, of Masterton. parents of Mrs Douglas. During the serving of afternoon tea a number of congratulatory messages were received and toasts honoured. These were suitably acknowledged in a humorous manner by the bridegroom of 50 years ago. Messages of congratulation were received from England and various parts of New Zealand, including one from the Mayor and members of the Masterton Borough Council and staff.

Later an enjoyable card party was held and was thoroughly appreciated by the guests.

Mr and Mrs White were married in the Wesleyan Church. Camden Town England, by the Rev. W. Allan, on December 25, 1890 and came to New Zealand on the lonic in 1908. They resided in Hastings for 17 years and then removed to Masterion whore they now live. Ever since his arrival in New Zealand Mr White has taken a keen interest in ■Municipal affairs. While residing in Hastings he served eight years on the Borough Council and for the past 12 years has been a member of the Masterton Borough Council. Mr and Mrs White have a family of two. Mr W. G. White, of Wellington, and Mrs Bruce Douglas. of Haumoana. There are three grandchildren. Mrs Olson < Haumoana), Sapper Ralph Douglas’, who is serving witii His Majesty's Forces overseas and Margaret White, of Wellington and one greatgrandchild. Joy Olsen, thus making four generations represented nt the golden wedding celebrations.
