ESSAY ON CITIZENSHIP I WINNERS OF TIRITAHI PRIZES. (“Times-Age" Special.) i The Tiritahi prizes, donated by the I late Mr W. B. Pupils of the Secondary Department : of the Eketahuna District High School | compete annually for these prizes. ■ _ OBITUARY j MR ALFRED W. O. LUND. With the untimely passing of Mr Alfred Lund in a drowning accident at Whakalane, comes to an end a promising career. The accident was caused evidently by his getting into difficulties with his surf board, and not being noticed for some time on account of the crowd on the beach. Artificial respiration was practised for two hours without success. As a boy he gained his secondary education at the Eketahuna District High "School, passed the matriculation examination, and showed exceptional ability in drawing and lettering. Continuing this type of work, he has recently been an architectural cadet, employed by the State Housing Department in Wellington. The news of his death was received with deep regret by the staff and expupils of the Eketahuna District High School, who remember him as surf) a persevering, courteous and gifted boy. Much sympathy is felt for his parents. Mr and Mrs O. Lund, of Marima. in their sad loss.

Pavitt, of Wellington, spent the New Year holidays with the Misses Wilson. Stanley Street. Miss B. Curry and Mr J. Curry are; visitors to Seateun. Mrs V. Capes is visiting friends at ■ Paraparaumu. Mrs H. Daniel Senr.. is on a visit to her sister. Miss M. Pilsen, Wairoa. Mr Burch Senr.. has returned to Gisborne after having spent a holiday with his son. Mr and Mrs S. Turley and family are spending the holidays with friends in Wellington. Mr and Mrs M. Drysdale. Parapara, Wanganui, are visiting the former’s j mother. Mrs M. Drysdale, Mncara' Street.
Mr S O’Regan has returned from . holiday spent in Woodville.
Mr and Mrs D. Reid and family are on a visit to Napier.
Mr A. Mygind, a former resident of Eketahuna. and who is now engaged in gold dredging on the West Coast, is the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Neilsen, Parkville. Mr L. Allomes. of Wanganui, is the
guest of Mr and Mrs S. Daniel. Parkville.
Mr R. Thornton, of Masterion. has returned home after having being the guest of Mr A. 11. Goodhue. Mrs E. Coster lias returned from a visit to Waipukuruu.
