CARTERTON
RECENT FATAL ACCIDENT FUNERAL OF VICTIMS. ("Times-Age" Special.) The funeral of the victims of the fatality at Parkvale on Tuesday afternoon, Messrs B. W. Renal! and Edwin James, took place yesterday afternoon and was one of the biggest ever seen ’ in the di.stiict, there being fully 150: motor cars with mourners, showing the I very high esteem in which the deceas- i ed were held. At St. Mark s Church i a service was held by the Vicar, Rev. i W. F. Stetpt, who also conducted the J service at lhe graveside at the Clare-• ville Cemetery. The Druids' service • was conducted by A.D. Bro. W. Fryer. 1 Over 100 members of the Druids’ Lodge were present, Bro. B. W. Renal! having passed through the chairs of Totara Lodge. Bro. E. James had been a Rugby football player since the Great War. having played for Carterton and Gladstone. For many years he was manager of the Hikurangi College farm, oefore he commenced farming on his own account at Park vale. In the 191418 war he served as a member of the Mounted Rifles in Egypt. The casket bearing his body was draped with the Union Jack. The pall-bearers for the late Mr E. James were: Bros. K. Reid. M. Parker, H. Bain and H. Bassett j (Druids), A. G. Rabbits and C. Channells (R.S.A.); for the late Mr B. Renall: Bros. W. Hart. H. Hodder, E. Bond (Druids), R. Williams (brother-in-law), C. Jensen, E. T. Bliss (Parkvale settlers). / Wreaths were received among others. from the following:—For the the late Mr B. W. Renall, Parkvale Society. Parkvale Pig Club. Parkvale Dairy Factory suppliers. Parkvale factory staff. Matarawa and Dalefield Wo-{ men’s Institute. Carterton branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, and Sir Herbert and Lady Hart: for the late Mr E. Jamis, Clareville Hall Committee, of which he was secretary, suppliers of the Parkvale Dairy Factory, staff of the Parkvale Dairy Factory. Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Club. Carterton. the Carterton branch of the R.S.A.. and the Carterton Basketball Club.
OBITUARY A MRS MARY E. EAGLE. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital yesterday of Mrs Mary Elizabeth Eagle, relict of Mr Edward Eagle, after a long illness. Deceased, who was 75 years of age. had been in ill-health for several years, and for some time has been confined to her bed. She was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs George Burnett, one time resident of Conol'y’s Line. Belvedere, and who were well known pioneer settlers of the Carterton district. Mrs Eagle formerly took an active interest in the welfare of the district, and was a keen horticulturalist. She was well known and highly respected throughout the district. Deceased is survived by a son. Mr Edward Bertram Eagle, of Marton, and a daughter. Mrs Hugh Armstrong, of Kennedy Road. Napier. Mrs C. Callender. Lower Hutt, and Mrs A. Hadfield. Rangitikei. are sisters. The funeral will leave St. Mark’s Anglican Church tomorrow after a service commencing at 10.30 a.m. Personal Items. Mrs M. E. Mellish left this morning for Stratford en route to Auckland where she will spend a holiday. Mr and Mrs W. Martin and family, of Rexwood Street. Carterton. left this afternoon en route to Dunedin. Messrs Tory Spooner and Neville Spooner spent the New Year with their parents. Mr and Mrs W. H. Spooner. Rhodes Street. Carterton They will enter camp at Trenthain on Monday for training for overseas service. Card Party Postponed. Owing to the recent fatality at Parkvale, there will be no card tournament tomorrow night in connection with the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Cocksfoot Grass Seed. Cocksfoot grass seed is being extensively harvested in and around Carterton at the present time. Good crops of seed are being harvested, and those engaged in the work report good prospects.
