AIR & SEA WARFARE FIGURES FOR 1940. HEAVY CUT IN GERMANY'S AIR STRENGTH. (British Official Wireless.) : (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) RUGBY, January 2. ■ A detailed analysis of the figures of i British and enemy losses in the air I and sea warfare during 1940, which is j now available, shows that 2,993 Gerj man aeroplanes were shot down over I Britain, at a cost of 847 British lighti ers. Anti-aircraft gunfire accounted i for 444 Nazi machine:-; over Britain, ' the greatest number fur a single day ( being 23. which the guns brought down "ii August 15. Over German-occupied • territories, the R.A.F. lost 374 bornbi (*rs and 28 more at sea. but G 3 Ger- : man planes were destroyed by British : bombers during these operations. ; _ In actions with the Italian air force.
