Brown, wide-mouthed coinej dian whose antics have enlivened the j screen for years, returns to the Cosy j Theatre tonight in Columbia's "Be- : ware Spooks," with Mary Carlisle feai lured. The comedy star is seen in his j forthcoming film as a policeman whose ; antics make him the underworld's best. !if most unwilling, friend. Major roles are played by Clarence Kolb. Don ' Beddoe, Marc Lawrence and Frank • Thomas. Edward Sedgwick directed. Filmed against sweeping back--1 grounds of Alaskan snowfields. "Girl ■ From God's Country." thrilling action ' hit from Republic Studios, is the assoi elate feature. Chester Morris and Jane Wyatt, who portray the romantic j j leads, are ideally cast in the rugged; frontier type of role in which strong! character must be dominant. The pair; are stranded in the far reaches of Al-j aska with nothing but illiterate eski-1 mos and sled dogs for companions and' ! their relationship, which is born in’ ! spirited conflict and misunderstanding < ripens to a deep love which is trans- I : lated to the screen with profound and < penetrating insight. Charles Bickford! is menacing as Bill Bogler. the icnaci-i ous detective who is determined to get ■ his man by fair means or foul—and the: fact that his man happens to be Dr. ‘ Jim Holden, the role played by Ches-■ ter Morris, lends zest and excitement j to the plot. An appealing nair amm'g the supporting players are Mala, an Eskimo player, and Manio Clark, a Polynesian girl who sprang into prominence with her role in "Mutiny on the Bounty." Special mention should also be made of "Ace." the giant police dog who plays a prominent part in bringing Morris and Miss Wyatt together. The supporting cast includes Kate Lawson. John Bleifcr. Don Zelaya, Ferike Boros. Clem Bevans. Ed. Gargan and Spencer Charters.
