MARTON AMIGO WINS CHIEF EVENT. GOLDBURN PAYS SENSATIONAL DIVIDEND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.! WANGANUI. January 2. A sensational dividend by Goldburn in the Rangitikei Hack Cup was a feature of the second and concluding day of the Marton Jockey Club’.-; summer meeting. Ju a field of 13 the winner was not the rank outsider but there was only £8 on her win chance and £2l for a place. Her dividend for a win went over the century and a half mark, the largest ever paid on the Marlon course.
Goldburn, a mare purchased in Australia by her owner-trainer. W. T. Bailey, Awapuni. had never previously won a race of any description, though she has been placed.
There was another near sensation when an incipient fire was discovered on the decking of the ground landing at the back of the Stewards' stand It was fortunate for the club that this tiro was discovered as had it occurred a little later there is no doubt that the stand would have been totally destroyed during the night. The fire was caused by a cigarette butt and was extinguished by the tearing up of a board and with water. There was a good attendance and the mudisator handled £20,248. compared with £10,022 IDs on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £48.282 Ills against £38.39a 10s, an increase of £9887. Results: Trial Plate, six furlongs: ? 1 Ringcraft, 8.5 (('hotel 1: 1 2 War Credit. 8.7 11) W.
