One of the surprising results of the appeal for the reclamation of waste metals to help the patriotic funds was the poor response in the Auckland metropolitan area to' the request for the brass caps of lamp bulbs. It has been estimated that 150.000 lamp bulbs were discarded during the three months period of the collection, yet only 15 gross were received.'which represents one in 75 caps discarded. Waste metal collections have been suspended because of the approaching holidays, and the appeal is made by the Auckland provincial supervisor, Dr E. P. Neale, that the public will retain lamp caps and other non-ferrous waste metals in expectation of the 1911 collections.
