VITAL STATISTICS FIGURES FOR PAST YEAR. ("Times-Age” Special.) GOLDEN WEDDING < ■ ; MR & MRS J. A. ORDISH. At the residence of Mr and Mrs Geo. Sadler, Matarawa. yesterday, the golden wedding of Mr and Mrs J. A. Ordish was fittingly celebrated. Mr and Mrs Ordish were married at the residence of the late Mr W. Saywell, Greytown, on New Year's Day, 1890, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. Mr Dellow, Methodist minis-; ter. Mrs Ordish was the third daugh-1 ter of the late Mr and Mrs Wm. Say-' well, of Kuratawhiti Street, Greytown, i and Mr J. A. Ordish. the eldest son of ■ the late Mr and Mrs A. J. Ordish. of j Grey town. There were 40 guests present at the i function which was held on the lawn under a huge totara tree at the residence of Mrs Sadler, a daughter. The breakfast was provided by members of the Ordish family and a two-decker cake, made and presented by two granddaughters, Misses B. Ordish and Beth Sadler, bearing gold de- i corations, was much admired for its j beauty anti quality. The bridesmaid. [ Mrs Broom, of Hastings, was present.
Beautiful gold bouquets were made and presented by Mrs A. E. Goodin, of Dalefield.
There were only two toasts honoured. that of the ‘ king" being proposed by the Rev. J. A. Daglistu. Carterton, and "The Bride and Bridegroom" proposed in a very able manner by the Rev. Mr Perryman, and responded to by the “bridegroom," Mr J. A. Ordis'h.
those present were Mrs BrvCm. Hastings: Mrs Robinson, Hastings; Mr and Mrs Baillie. Eketahuna; Mr and Mrs McNab, Dannevirke; Mrs Gardiner, Dannevirke; Mrs Gosling, Dannevirke; the Rev. Perryman. Johnsonville, and the Rev. White, Tauranga. Messages of congratulation were received from Misses Mara and Kiaoru Tyler. Dunedin; "Rita" Hamilton. "Voila” Auckland; the Rev. Mr and Mrs Liddell, Auckland; the Rev. Mr and Mrs Elliott, Auckland; the Dalefield Dairy Co., Mr and Mrs C. Sayer. Mr and Mrs and Miss Jones. Matarawa, Mr and Mrs J. Thawley. Wellington. and many others.
Presentation to Mr Geo. Morris,
At Deller’s Meat Marl. Carterton, on Tuesday evening, the proprietor and staff made a presenation to Mr George Morris, who has taken up duties at the Waingawa Freezing Works. In making the presentation of il wallet to Mr Morris, the manager, Mr W. C. Deller, referred to the good relations that have always existed between the firm and Mr Morris over a period of five years. He wished him success in his new sphere. Mr Morris’s health was toasted, after which he suitably replied.
Seeing the Old Year Out.
There was a large number of people in Carterton on New Year’s Evo. and business firms did good business. Prior to the closing of the shops at 9 o’clock, members of the Wairarapa Pipe Band paraded the streets, playing many popular Scotch airs. They afterwards played throughout the borough, seeing the old year out and the new year in, Though the young appeared to enjoy themselves, the new year went off very quietly. Personal Items. Mr Robert Darroch. of Wellington, and his brother. Mr Joseph Darroch. of Kaikoura. who have been visitors to Carterton, returned home today. Mr H. M. J. Nicholson, of Otaki. was a visitor to the Wairarapa races.
