FATAL COLLISION
TWO MEN KILLED FIVE OTHER PERSONS INJURED. TRAGEDY ON THE HUTT ROAD. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Following a collision between a taxi and another car on the Hutt Road between the Korokoro railway crossing and the Petone station, about 5 a.m. yesterday, two people were killed and five others were injured. They were;— KILLED. Mr George Rimmer, traveller. 9 Boston Terrace. Mr Herbert John Davies, married, aged 57. chief steward of an overseas ship. His home was in Duchy Drive, Paignton. South Devon. INJURED. Miss K. Lucena. 41A The Terrace, fractured left thigh and severe shock. Dr. A. K. Currie, ship's doctor on the same overseas ship, head and chest injuries. Miss J. Williams. 30 Gorge Road. Ngaio. injuries to back, face, shoulder, and chest, and severe shock. Mr M. Shield, taxi-driver, incised wound on the face, slight concussion, and shock. Mr R. E. Gibbs, milkman. Taila. severe head injuries, broken nose and shock.
Mr Rimmer and Mr Davies were killed instantly, their necks being broken.
The accident occurred almost on the crown of the road.
It is stated that Miss Lucena. Dr. Currie, and Mr Davies, in Miss Lueena's car. were returning to Wellington along the Western Hutt Road about 4 a.m.. when the car failed to negotiate a bend, and struck a bank. The three were picked up by Mr Rimmer. who was taking them into Wellington when the second accident occurred.
The taxi contained two passengers. Mr Gibbs and Mr John Mvlliu’. 105 Bell Road, who was uninjured. Both cars were considerably dam* aged.
