When the recipients of New ' Year honours stand before the King at Buckingham Palace to receive their honours. the scene will be a democratic tableau in which every phase of British life and industry will be represented— Lord. Commoner, director, workman. telephonist, typist, ambassador, blacksmith, newspaper owner, journalist, policeman, fireman, doctor and nurse providing living testimony that Europe's tew order begins in London and not in Berlin. Several of the recipients are designated skilled workmen. Gone are the days when honours were the exclusive preserve of wealthy philanthropists and generous donors io party funds. Today, throughout Britain, men and women in all walks of life know that their services are recognised
