| “NIGHT TRAIN TO MUNICH.” — The outstanding picture, “Night j Train to Munich.” will be finally \ shown tonight. j A MICKEY ROONEY PICTURE. Mickey Rooney in his latest film, j "Andy Hardy Meets a Debutante." i | which will be shown tomorrow night,! j continues his portrayal of Andy Hardy, j J the son of a small town judge, who: j has " a way with wimmen,” and who! j once more gets himself involved in a! {series of misfortunes which colour his i cutlook and philosophy for a long ; lime. In this film Andy is in love with ! Daphne Fowler. "Number One GlamI our Girl.” whose picture is in every magazine and whose face is as familiar ! to Americans as their favourite movie ! stars. Andy feels-that his passion is of I j the hopeless variety, as Daphne lives i in New York, and ho seems destined to' end his days in Carvol. With this In i mind he openly boasts of his acquain- I fiance with Miss Fowler, and tells hisj i old love, Polly, that he is now attach- < icd to Daphne. His consternation isj i great. as might be expected, when he! reaches home to hear his father an-i nounce that the whole family is’ bound for New York at the earliest possible moment. The judge has a I ruse to try. and evidence must be ta- ! ken to New York immediately. Over-; j ruling Andy's obvious reluctance to s j come, the judge forces him to accom-[ t pany the family, and Andy leaves Car-j j vol miserable in the knowledge that he {will "lose face” once he returns with! ■ no evidence that he knows the dob.
lof the hour. When they arrive in New i York they find Betsy Booth (Judy I Garland), .who has known and adored I Andy for a long time. Betsy has proj cured a flat for them and docs her best to make Andy happy. Be has no eyes for Betsy, however, and gets her to j borrow some dress clothes so than he j can attend a fashionable restaurant whore Daphne is supposed to attend. A film like this has ample scope for, an actor of Mickey Rooney's capabdl-j ties, and he makes, ;-.s usual, the most, * of his opportunities. There are picnic I ■ of laughs in the film, and the young: I star is supported by the rest of the | ■ now well-known Hardy family, viitl., Lewis Stone the kindly judge who has j i quite a lot of wise sayings to P !o '| j pound. There is an entertaining sup- | j porting programme.
