KNITTED GARMENTS
MATTERS THAT NEED ATTENTION
Knitted garments are not always successful. because sometimes the work is pressed to such an extent that it loses its elasticity. The wool becomes what the wool expert describes as “dead wool." In many instances the seams are machined instead of being hand sewn with needle and wool. Others are overcast so that they are lumpy on the inside. When washed these are very uncomfortable. Some garments have the stitches for the wrists cast on too tightly. Sleeves are often put in badly—puckered and out of shape—and quite often the neckband or collar is out of proportion to the rest of the jumper or else put on clumsily. Tension plays an important part in knitting, a thing which many knitters forget.
