FORM REVIEWED
PROSPECTS OF HORSES KEEN RACE FOR CUP EXPECTED. GOOD FIELDS WILL FACE STARTER. There are good fields for the first day of the Wairarapa Racing Club's meeting on Wednesday, and investors will find it hard to. make selections. The following is a brief review of the fields: — WAIOHINE STAKES, of £l5O. Six furlongs. Arctic Queen 8 7 Lady Beau Ceil .... 8 7 Garvagh 8 7 Blue Heaven 8 7 Magic Night 8 7 Callcardine ..8 7 Maharajah ..8 7 Equity 8 7 Metonymy ..8 7 Fauvette .... 8 7 Princess Half Caste ’..8 7 Venus 8 7 HamishB 7 Pillory 8 7 Haughty Tane Pango ..8 7 Rival 8 7 Tristan 8 7 Hunting The Monarch 8 7 Squire 8 7 Vivid Night 8 7 Arctic Queen has run very indifferently for some time past, and will require to show much better form before the public will support her, and the same may be said of Beau Ceil. Blue Heaven is an unknown quantity and Callcardine does not appeal. Half Caste, Pillory and Metonymy are local horses which may be fit enough to put up a good showing. The race is very open and favourites may be Haughty Rival, Hamish and Maharajah. PIONEER HANDICAP, of £2OO. Six furlongs. Kentucky .. .. 9 10 Kinneff 7 9 Autolite 8 6 Synthetic .... 7 9 LianeB 0 Prior to hfe win at Feilding Kentucky had been successful in two races this season besides a couple of seconds. The field he beat: at Feilding included Old Bill. Autolite ran a good third to Valiant Lady and Distress Signal at Otaki, that being her first start this season. Liane won two races last season, the Martinborough Handicap at the Wairarapa Easter meeting and the Raukawa Handicap at Otaki in May. Kinneff and Synthetic arc winners this season. The public may like Kentucky, Kinneff and Liane. RUSSELL HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP, of £l5O. Nine furlongs and 80 yards. Sunee 11 1 Namesake ..9 0 Good Sun .. 10 11 Dawn Te Ore .. .. 9 .10 Parade 9 0 Arabic 9 7 Larwood .. .. 9 0 War Cloud 9 4 The Moderate .. 9 3 Monarch 9 0 Acrobat 9 2 Te Ore will be amongst the horses fancied for this race and the Lord Quex mare is in splendid fettle. Sunee has done nothing this season, while Good Sun has three wins to his credit as well as other placings. Arabic ran second, to Prudent Prince in the Summer Handicap at Riccarton in August,
and won at Wiaipukurau on Boxing Day. War Cloud has notched a couple of seconds. Moderate has shown little promising form and the same may be said of Namesake. Larwood has started on numerous occasions but without scoring a win and the same applies to Dawn Parade and The Monarch. The public may go for Good Sun. Te Ore and Arabic. WAIRARAPA JUBILEE CUP. of £6OO. One mile and a quarter. Catalogue .. !) 9 White Rajah 7 2 Black Thread 9 2 Gay Fox .. .. 7 0 Little Robin 8 8 Cherry Bay .. 7 0 Gay Mimic .. 7 8 Te Ore 7 0 Siglow 7 8 Titter 7 0 Harina 7 7 Hasten 7 0 Bold Step .... 7 3 Manawatu form will probably cause punters to reconsider their choice for the Cup. White Rajah showed true form at Awapuni on Thursday, while Black Thread ran disappointingly. Catalogue may find the going too difficult. White Rajah, as was stated in these columns recently. is probably now at his best and will make a strong effort to head the field past the post. Gay Fox is another good prospect, and there will doubtless be strong support for Black Thread, while Little Robin , should be well up on the machine. Gay i Mimic is shaping well at work and keen judges of form expect the Mimetic gelding to give the field a merry'! time, especially after his Waipukurau 1 win. Of the others Siglow may find most favour. The public may fancy Gay Fox, White Rajah and Little Robin, with Gay Mimic as a good outside chance.
BIDWILL NURSERY HANDICAP, of £2OO. Five furlongs. Drake's Drum 8 10 Quick Gunyah 8 6 Decision 8 0 Monetary .... 8 3 Miner's Hope 7 13 Eastern Sport 8 3 Imperium .. .. 7 11 Kevin 8 3 The Whipper 7 11 Sir Reynard 8 2 Saka Bona ..7 7 Dungloe .... 8 1 Olein 7 7 Trekalong ..8 0 Gunyah’s form at Manawatu may bring that horse into popular fancy. Most of the other contestants have little to recommend them. Gunyah. Drake's Drum and Dungloe may be popular fancies. WHAREKAKA HANDICAP, of. £l5O. Six furlongs. Kinneff 9 0 First Round 7 7 Cheerful Lady 8 10 Wakarara .... 7 7 Synthetic .. .. 8 8 St. Grace .... 7 7 Teacony .. .. 8 7 Namesake ..7 7 Kadina 7 11 Vivid Night 7 7 Coronado .. .. 7 10 Tristan 7 7 Cheerful Lady may top the machine on recent form. Coronado has shown fair form, running a second to Teacony at Levin and a fourth to Valiant Lady at Otaki. Though Teacony did no good on the first day at Awapuni he registered a win on. Saturday. He secured a win at the Combined Rotorua and Poverty Bay Hunt Club meeting, and another at Levin. Kadina has shown fair form in her work on the track and prior to the Christmas racing had registered a couple of thirdf. The others further down the weights have only breeding to recommend
them so far this season. Cheerful Lady (if started). Teacony and Coronado may catch the public fancy. WARDELL HANDICAP, of £259. Seven furlongs. Black Trebor 7 4 Thread 10 2 White Rajah 7 2 Sir Crusoe .. 9 12 Cheerful Harina 7 13 Lady 7 0 Bold Step 7 6 Acrobat 7 (i The field in this race will depend much upon those who start in the Cup. If White Rajah, Black Thread and Cheerful Lady start earlier they will doubtless be scratched. In that, case Sir Crusoe, Harina' and Acrobat may greet the judge.
TAWAHA HACK HANDICAP, of £l5O. One mile. Great Night 9 0 Royal Vision 7 7 Counter 8 8 Pillory 7 7 TitterB 8 Wineberry ..7 7 Piastre 8 4 Little Margot 7 7 Sanction .. .. 8 2 Arctic Queen 7 7 Red Dash .... 7 9 Counter on form looks the best of the field. Great Night registered a win at Timaru. Titter has done little this season. Sanction won the Trial Stakes at Foxton. and prior to the holiday racing ran a second to Belle Cane at Trantham in the Trial Stakes and a third at the Rangitikei meeting. Piastre won. at Awapuni on Saturday. The favouritism on the machine may be Counter, Sanction and Great Night.
