COSY THEATRE

“LAW OF THE PAMPAS.” Gauchos, Boleadores, Pampas and Pomperos may all be unfamiliar terms to followers, of past “Hopalong Cassidy” outdoor action pictures, but they all figure importantly in the latest “Hoppy” adventure, “Law of the Pampas,” which vzill be finally shown tonight at the Cosy Theatre, with William Boyd in the top role. The associate feature, “The Fatal Hour,” is a thrilling further adventure in the career of “Mr Wong.” Boris Karloff, Grant Withers and Marjorie Reynolds head a great cast. “SOUTH TO KARANGA.” The chief attraction for tomorrow night’s New Year programme is “South to Karanga,” which is an unusual picture with an unusual theme. Most of the story takes place on a small train which is the fulfilment of one man’s dreams and hopes for many years. An American consul has hoped for years to get a train put through to Karanga, a desolate outpost in the' wilds of Africa. When at last the train prepares to make its first trip, word comes that the tribes are .in rebellion. All festivities are cancelled and men and women board the train at their own risk. In spite of the warning nine people start off. These nine are an interesting assortment, and include an elderly doctor and his pretty nurse, the consul himself and his secretary, a man who has known the country and is acting as. guide, and others. Adventures befall the party before and after its arrival at Karanga. A man is killed on board the train and no one knows who is the murderer; and arrived at Karanga the native rebellion has to be given attention. James Craig and Luli Deste deftly handle their romantic assignments. John Sutton, Maurice Moscovitch, Paul Hurst, Abner Biberman, and Ben Carter offer strong supporting characterisations.

The associate picture is a merry musical entitled “Sing, Dance, Plenty Hot,” featuring Johnny Downs, Billy Gilbert, Ruth Terry and Vera Vague.
