BRILLIANT CRICKET

CANTERBURY BEAT OTAGO SEVEN WICKETS MARGIN, FAST SCORING. (Bj’ Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, December 27. In a most brilliant exhibition of fast scoring, Canterbury secured a sensational seven-wicket victory over Otago in the interprovincial cricket match. Faced with the seemingly impossible task of scoring 303 runs in less than two hours and three-quarters. Canterbury batsmen scored so fast that victory was obtained with more than 20 minutes to spare, and it is doubtful whether there has ever been a more sustained fast-scoring rate in a big match played at Lancaster Park before. The heroes of Canterbury's innings were Hadlee and O'Brien, who added 210 for the second wicket in 82 minutes. Hadlee made a brilliant 144, which included p 4 fours and one five. O'Brien had one six and 10 fours in his 101. From the beginning runs came at an amazing rate, 50 in'2s minutes, 100 in 50. 150 in 74, 200 in 90, 250 in 111 and the remaining 56 in 27 minutes.
