SWIMMING BATHS A POPULAR SPOT. ("Times-Age" Special.) The Carterton Swimming baths are a popular spot this year. Many visitors to the town are using them and the general opinion is that they are the best inland baths in New Zealand. OBITUARY ’v ✓ MR. JAMES HANNAH. The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital yesterday of Mr. James Hannah, of Carterton. The deceased was a pioneer of Carterton, and was greatly respected by all who knew him. Several years ago he met with an accident which necessitated the use of crutches. Some months ago acting upon medical advice he entered the Greytown Hospital. His wife predeceased him several years ago. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon, leaving King’s Mortuary Chapel for the Clareville Cemetery at 1 o’clock. Deceased was an old member of Totara Lodge of Druids, and members are asked to meet at the lodge room at 12.40 p.m. in order to attend the funeral. Cocksfoot Grass Cocksfoot grass is very plentiful this season, .and there should be an abundance of seed gathered. Already cutting has commenced in and around Carterton. Personal Items. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Booth and family of Pahautanui, are spending the holidays with Mrs. Booth’s mother, at Belvedere, Carterton. Mr. and Mrs. B. Standen, of Levin, are visitors to Carterton. Mr. and Mrs. R. Whitburn, of Wellington, are visiting Carterton for the holidays. Patriotic Effort. The guessing of the number of bales of hay from a crop harvested on the Carterton Racing Club’s track should be the means of providing a substantial sum of money for patriotic purposes. Water Supply Fails. A serious position occurred in Carterton this morning when the town was without water for some time. Early in the morning the supply was normal and then at 8.30 o’clock for no apparent reason the water gauges at the Jtjtrough office registered no pressure. V.jTle borough overseer and his staff qt/fckly gave the mater their attention and water was again available at 10.45 o’clock. Good Crops. The present season has been , responsible for very heavy crops of hay, lucerne, oats, etc. Some excellent crops of mangolds are to be seen about Ahikouka, Dalefield and Swamp Road district.
