Christmas Day was the first day on which there has been no work in many British armament factories since the great effort to rearm faster was launched after the Dunkirk evacuation. Nevertheless the day was not wasted for machinery which has been working at top speed for months was overhauled. It was a day of recuperation, not only for armament workers but also for armaments machinery.
