HOLIDAY TRAVELLING
ROAD AND RAIL TRAFFIC i EASIER. MANY PEOPLE STAY AT HOME. In some quarters it is held that a greater number of people than usual spent Christmas at home. Neither the railways nor roads were used to a normal extent by the standards set in previous years. Although a good many cars have been on the road during the Christinas holidays, a marked falling off in the volume of traffic is noticeable, no doubt due to the effect of petrol restrictions and war conditions generally. In the Wairarapa, according to a Wairarapa Automobile Association officer, touring motorists have shown consideration and road courtesy to others and there has been an almost complete freedom from accidents. Most of themotor camps in the district have been well filled and the beautifully fine I weather of the past day or two has \ been ideal for motor campers. I Trains in and out of Masterton. have been well filled during the past week or so with a steady volume of passengers. As no figures have been compiled yet it is not possible to give a comparison with the number travelling last year. The exhibition last year, however, would account for a larger number of passengers than usual.
