The Australian War Minister, Mr. Spender, and the Chief of the Australian General Staff, Lieutenant-General V. A. Sturdee, have arrived and are at present in conference with the Com-mander-in-Chief in the Far East, Air Chief Marshal Sir Robert BrookePopham. A communique issued by British headquarters in the Far East says that substantial reinforcements of all arms for the Far Eastern Command recently arrived, including aircraft, Air Force personnel, Indian infantry, artillery, and engineers, and auxiliary units. The communique adds: “The reinforcements have not only strengthened the already formidable defences of Singapore but have increased the defence forces in other areas of the FarEastern Command.”
