BRISK BUSINESS
MASTERTON RETAILERS WELL SATISFIED STEADY FLOW OF CHRISTMAS TRADE. POSITION QUITE SATISFACTORY Masterton retailers appear to be well satisfied with Christmas trade, most oi them reporting steady business, as good as that of last year. “The old British spirit still prevails, observed one retailer, who reported exceptionally good business. People, he said, were buying freely and although there was not the variety in some lines to choose from, were meeting the position by taking the next best article. ~ . . , Another business man said he had experienced a steady sale of good quality goods. Stocks of some goods were running short, though Masterton had a better selection in many cases than Wellington shops. A number of people who usually did their Christmas shopping in Wellington were this year securing their requirements locally. Brisk business is expected today and tonight, and most Masterton retailers are confident that when the final balance is made their returns will be about equal to those of last year, which was an exceptionally good year.
