CHARMING SILHOUETTE
THE NIPPED-IN WAIST IS OUT. The “new look” means trim ribs, a longer torso, -smooth diaphragm, small but not a pinched waistline. In .1937, there was the Empire line. In 1938 it was the dirndl skirt and belted waist; 1939 brought the skating girl silhouette with short, full skirt and nipped-in waist. But the long, slim torso is the fashion feature of 1940. Yes, the silhouette really has changed. And it is the corset that has changed it. Naturally this new turn of fashion makes women more than ever dependent on the foundation. But that is all to the good, especially from the health point of view, because modern corsetry is based on health. But, forgetting the serious side, the great thing is that in the new, supple foundations women’s figures, are going to look younger and They’ll make the most of every curve of the bosom in particular—and make up for any shapliness women lack. They’ll firm the waist and give a smooth flow to the hips that Nature altogether neglected. It’s a charming silhouette.
