Wellington.—Batsmen were in their element on easy wickets after Friday night’s downpour when the Wellington Cricket Association’s fifth series of senior competition games commenced in perfect weather on Saturday afternoon. Midland ran up 306 against Wellington, W. Hepburn and .H. W. Osborn giving the side a splendid start by putting on 145 for the first wicket. Wellington made the spirited response of 101 for one wicket. Sent to the wickets, Kilbirnie totalled 296 against Wellington College Old Boys. H. Lubransky and O. L. Wrigley put on 99 for the first wicket, and D. S. Wilson, the captain, hit freely for 62. Old Boys, at stumps, had lost three wickets for 42 runs. Stiffened by some overdue promotions fiom the second grade, University .showed improvement by running up '250 against Karori. P. Caird, a promoted junior, top-scored with 62, and P. D. Wilson also passed the half-century. Karori made the resolute reply of 108 for one wicket, J. Standidge and R. W. Coupland showing form. Thanks to spirited innings by Bezzant, Lang and McCarthy, Institute Old Boys totalled 278 against Hutt on the Hutt Recreation Ground. At stumps, Hutt had 67 runs on without loss.
Dunedin.—Beautifully fine weather once again made conditions for cricket most pleasant. The wickets and cutfields were fast. The best performance of the day was that of V. G Cavanagh, captain of the Carisbrook B team, who scored 184 not out out of a total of 319 against the unbeaten Al-bion-Y.M.C. A. side. The only batsmen to give him assistance were C. Geary (52) and J. Coombs (27). J. Allen took five wickets for 105 runs. Albion-Y.M.-C.A. scored 52 for one. Dunedin batted the whole afternoon for 280 for three wickets against University (O’Sullivan 104, McDonald 56, Robertson 58 not out. Carisbrook A scored 236 against Old Boys (Mclntyyre 68), and captured two wickets for 52’. Grange battled first against Kaikorai and made 152. Kaikorai lost seven wickets for 43. Auckland. —Y.M.C.A., 166 for eight (Scott 62 not out), met Papakura Camp. Grafton, 197 met Parnell, Pon-sonby-Balmoral, 182 met Middlemore. Training College, 138 for four (Elliott 65 not out), met Edon. University, 101 met North Shore, 48 for two.
