TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD

FINAL MEETING OF YEAR. ENTERTAINMENT BY CHILDREN. The Masterton Townswomen’s Guild held its final meeting of this year yesterday afternoon in the Y.M.C.A. Hall. There was a large attendance. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode, the reciting of the Aspirations and the Prayer for Peace. As a mark of sympathy with Mesdames Turner and Polson in their recent bereavements, members stood in silence for a few moments. The president (Mrs Bennett) welcomed the members and visitors, and wished them the compliments of the season. Mrs Judd reported on the work of the Patriotic Committee and thanked those who had helped to make and fill the hussifs: also the members who contributed to the children’s Gala Day. Mrs Dagg as delegate on the Dental Clinic Committee presented her report. The results of the competitions were as follow: —Guest towel: Mrs Goff, 1; Mrs Donovan, 2. Anzac biscuits: Mrs Donovan, 1; Mrs Taylor, 2; Mrs Goff, 3.

Afternoon tea was served and then an excellent entertainment was given by the following children: —Pianoforte solos, Heather Robertson, Peggy Bubbers, Gwenda Barber, Audrey Daysh, and Myrie Heath; violin solos by Douglas Tagg, accompanied by Mrs MillerHope; vocal items by Margaret Thomson, Jean Graham, Joan and Heather Douglas: mouth organ duet, Rex and Maurice Whittaker; skipping dance by Kathleen Wiltshire and Joan Whittaker; and recitations by Jocelyn Heath, Audrey Graham. Wendy Torwick and Cleanor Bennett.

Mrs Bennett in thanking the children, presented each with a small gift. An enjoyable gathering concluded with the singing of the Guild Ode and the National Anthem. It is the intention of the Musical, Drama and Arts and Crafts circles, to combine with the Gardening Circle in producing an entertainment as a special effort to raise funds for patriotic purposes.
