GREYTOWN

VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE MEETING OF MEMBERS. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Volunteer Fire Brigade was held, on Monday evening when Deputy Superintendent H. Wood presided over a full attendance of members. The secretary was instructed to procure one bucket pump outfit and to place an order for 300 feet of new hose. The sum of £2 2s was voted to the appeal on behalf of British firemen. A circular from the United Fire Brigades' Association advised that firemen should join the Emergency Precaution Scheme and not the Home Guard. The question of having drivers’ licences endorsed for driving the fire engine was discussed, and it was de- 1 cided to ask the local authority to endorse all firemen’s licences.

BOWLING GRADY MEDALS. Messrs A. Thompson and Tucker played Messrs Shedden and Higgison for the Grady Medals last evening. After a good even game the holders, Messrs Shedden and Higgison, won 21/19. On Thursday a Carterton four will play for the Champion Fours Medals. Playing for the Dennes Medal E. Skeet beat Bloomfield after a close game. Personal. Quartemaster Sergeant J. VZ. Barnard is at present a visitor to Greytown and is the guest of Mr and Mrs G. Burns. This evening he will be the guest of honour at a- social and dance to be held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall and organised by the Citizen’s Patriotic Committee. Home Guard. i Mr Burch, Area Commander for Wairarapa. will attend the Greytown parade tonight. Rubbish Fire. The Greytown Fire Brigade received a call just before midnight to a rubbish fire which had been fanned by a freshening wind. No damage was done.
