SEA FUGITIVES
GERMAN SHIPS FROM TAMPICO REPORTED BRITISH 'CAPTURE. CUBAN NAVAL REPORT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) HAVANA, December 8. The Cuban Navy reported that it heard the German freighter Idarwald (5033 tons), which left Tampico (Mexico) 10 days days ago, sending out an SOS today indicating that she had been torpedoed by a British cruiser. The IdarwMd at 2.30 pjn.' radioed that she had been attacked by the cruiser oft the south coast of Cuba at 2.40 p.m.; she radioed that her crew was taking to the lifeboats. The Cuban coast freighter Mambi later advised that she was proceeding in the direction of the Idarwald.
A 8.8. C. broadcast states that it is reported that one of the German cargo sfeamers which recently left Tampico has beeq. captured by H.M.S. Diomede. The German crew attempted to scuttle their ship, but a boarding party from the cruiser jumped aboard, put out the fire and hoisted the British flag. An American Navy report, cabled from Washington, states that the ship taken by the Djomede is the Idarwald.
