BRITISH ONSLAUGHT
ADVANCE ELEMENTS ATTACK ON BROAD FRONT . I Operations of Considerable Importance SAID TO BE EXTENDING SATISFACTORILY ENEMY GENERAL KILLED AND ANOTHER CAPTURED FOUR THOUSAND PRISONERS HAVE BEEN CAPTURED BY BRITISH FORCES OPERATING IN THE WESTERN DESERT OF EGYPT. A COMM UNIQUE ISSUED FROM CAIRO AND TRANSMITTED BY THE 8.8. C. STATED THAT ADVANCE ELEMENTS OF THE BRITISH FORCES WERE IN CONTACT WITH THE ENEMY ON A BROAD FRONT. FIVE HUNDRED PRISONERS HAD BEEN CAPTURED SOUTH OF SIDI BARRANI. A FEW HOURS LATER ANOTHER COMMUNIQUE STATED THAT OPERATIONS WERE EXTENDING SATISFACTORILY AND THAT MORE THAN 4,000 PRISONERS HAD ALREADY BEEN TAKEN IN ONE AREA ALONE. THE G.O.C. OF ONE BODY OF ITALIAN FORCES WAS KILLED AND THE SECOND IN COMMAND CAPTURED. Nothing’ further has been reported about these British operations, but as the large number of prisoners indicates, the operations are of considerable importance. Extensive patrol actions in the Gallabat area are also ' announced from Cairo.
