CARTERTON
SPORTS CLUB MEETING TO BE HELD IN FEBRUARY. ("Times-Age” Special.) At a special meeting of the Ahia-ruhe-Ponatahi Sports Club it was decided to hold the annual sports on February 22, 1941, and to donate the whole of the net proceed,? to the Patriotic Fund. The sports will be held in conjunction with a Paddy's Market conducted by the Carterton District Patriotic Committee, and other activities by the Wairarapa P. and A. Society and the Masterton Interhouse Association. It is hoped to raise a substantial sum of money for the Patriotic Fund by these combined efforts. Clareville Cheese Factory. The dismantling of the old Taratahi Cheese Factory is being carried out by the purchaser of the building. The Taratahi Cheese Company was one of the pioneer cheese companies established in the Wairarapa. For a long period of years it served the district until more modern factories sprung into existence. The amount of milk delivered to the factory did not warrant it being kept open. The suppliers that remain in the district are now delivering their milk to other factories adjacent to Clareville. The building, a very old one, was built of the very best timber the sawmills supplied in those days and is as sound as the day it was erected.
Gas Refrigerator, The manager of the Carterton Gas Works, Mr A. Ingley, has installed a gas refrigerator for a Carterton client. This is the first one installed by the Carterton Gas Committee and is working excellently. Home Guard Parade. The Home Guard will hold a parade in the Band Room tomorrow evening. Further recruits will be enrolled at the parade. Persona!. Nurse Agnes Meyers, who had been spending her vacation with her parents in Carterton has resumed her duties. Couling conducted the burial service at the graveside. The pall-bearers were Messrs. C. Goodin, N. Goodin, R. Briddgewater. H. Bridgewater, J. Tilyard and C. Cook. Wool and Cheese. Large consignments of cheese from thhe various dairy factories in and around the Carterton district and wool are being loaded at the Carterton railway station en route to the stores in Wellington. School Ball. The headmaster and teachers of the Carterton District High School should be satisfied with the financial result of the children’s ball held in the King’s Theatre on Thursday evening. The taking amounted to £34. Bowling. Five rinks of Carterton bowlers journeyed to Eketahuna at the weekend and had a very enjoyable outing. They were hospitably entertained by the home team.
