NEW DECREE

DEATH FOR ARMED REVOLT IN RUMANIA. ACTION AGAINST IRON GUARD. NOW PERMITTED BY HITLER. The chief of the Rumanian State, General Antonescu, has decreed the death penalty for armed revolt, a 8.8. C. broadcast states. The decree is an attempt to strengthen the military forces in their clash with the Iron Guard. It seems clear that Hitler has given the Rumanian Army permission to crush the Iron Guard, although that organisation has served as his instrument in gaining domination over Rumania, in view of the danger of a national uprising, led by the army. Hitler’s anxiety is to keep the country quiet in order that Germany may obtain an uninterrupted flow of oil and other supplies.
