DISABLED MEN

EXAMINATION NOT NECESSARY. IF CALLED UP IN BALLOT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. Arrangements have been made which, it is expected, will enable the medical examination of the majority of men receiving invalid’s benefits or war disablement pensions and who are called in a ballot to be dispensed with, the Minister of Defence (Mr. Jones) stated today. A special medical board appointed under the National Service Emergeincy Regulations, 1940, will examine the files of such men and, excepting in those cases where it is considered that personal attendance is necessary, their fitness for military service will be determined without their being examined. All men who are in receipt of invalid’s benefits or war disablement pensions and who have been drawn in a ballot are requested to communicate with the nearest Army office at once in order that the necessary action may be taken to have their cases submitted to the special medical board. In some instances men who have been called up in the first two ballots will have been examined in the ordinary way, and there is, of course, no need for such men to take any action, but all men who have not been examined and who come within the above categories should communicate with the Army authorities at once. ,
