NO EVASION
OF MILITARY SERVICE OBLIGATIONS - PRIME MINISTER’S ASSURANCE MEDICAL PRACTIONER PROPOSALS. MR HOLLAND'S SUGGESTION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Persons attempting to evade con■scription by the simple means of not appearing for medical examination will be compelled to face up to their obligations, according to an announcement made by the Prime Minister (Mr Fraser) when the House of Representatives met at 10.30 today. The question was raised by Mr Broadfoot, wh<? asked what steps the Government proposed to take to ensure that such men did not evade their obligations. Urgency was accorded the passing of the Finance Bill No. 4. Mr Holland (Leader of the Opposition) said he did not think there would be much opposition to the Bill, but referring to the Social Security provisions he suggested that the Government should aim at giving all hospital treatment free, and pointed out that if doctors remaining behind were allowed to build up panels, they would have the choice of patients, and when those on service returned they might find no practice left to them. Under the circumstances the Government should consider holding the scheme over until after the war.
