IMPORTANT FORWARD STEP BY GREEKS
Argyrokastron Closely Threatened VIGOROUS SUPPORT GIVEN BY ROYAL AIR FORCE NUMBER OF ENEMY PLANES SHOT DOWN Backing up the Greek offensive in Albania, the 8.8. C. reports, the Royal Air Force has bombed the Italian southern base of Santi Quaranta, inflicting heavy damage and has raided extensively and successfully other Italian bases and lines of communication. The Greek Army, which on Wednesday captured the important town of Premet, is now threatening to cut the enemy communications behind Argyrokastron. '■ In air fighting a large number of enemy planes have been shot down. Greek reports put the figure of enemy losses at ten machines, but this awaits verification. i Off Santi Quaranta, British bombers attacked an Italian destroyer and registered two direct hits. Hauling their guns to mountain positions of 6,000 to 7,000 feet ,the Greeks are threatening the only road by which the Italians still in Argyrokastron can escape. Quantities of war material and a large numbei’ of prisoners have been taken.
