ACT OF UNION
WITH UNITED STATES. NO CURRENT PROPOSALS IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 3. Asked in the House of Commons to give an assurance that no definite or implied act of union would be entered into or irrevocably committed between Britain and the United States without the Government first giving an opportunity for discussion, the Lord Privy Seal, Mr Attlee, replied that he was not aware of any proposal of the kind mentioned, but it was quite certain that if any such plan were to approach the region of practical politics, it could only be after prolonged discussion by the legislative bodies on both sides of the Atlantic.
