OLD ROWLEY NOT TO RACE AGAIN. The owner-trainer of Old Rowley, J. A. Scully, is adhering to his original intention not to race the gelding again. The decision of the Australian Jockey Club Committee to keep the value of the Sydney Cup at £7OOO leaves the Melbourne Cup. the richest race in I Australia by only £5OO, and the committee reserves the right to reduce the prize-money. Podokes, the English-bred dam of Country Party. Upoko Ariki and several other good gallopers trained by J. T. Jamieson, was successfully represented at Randwick last Saturday by Lo Dokes, a smart three-year-old who won the Maiden Handicap. Lo Dokes made an exhibition of the fieldand should go on to further successes.' He is by Lo Zingaro and was leased as a yearling by J. T. Jamieson. The dam, Podokes. died last season after her last foal, a filly. After a lean period M. McCarten has had more opportunities, winning again on Red Bruce at a charity meeting at Victoria Park. It is doubtful if McCarten has been seen to better advantage than on Red Bruce in this event, and his performance should mean that he will be in as keen demand as ever in future events. ! Limarch was represented by Lady Limarch. winner of the 14.2 pony event, at Victoria Park. Although she carried only a light weight, she is rated as 14.1 and’ the pleasing feature af her performance was the stout manner in which she finished. Postman won the Flying Handicap at Rosehill, finishing on over six furlongs although he was lucky to hold oft’ the useful Red Thespian. Postman has been a moderate performer since coming to Australia, and of very different ouality from Defaulter, who was sold at the same sales.
