WATER SUPPLY

RESTRICTION OF HOSING DAILY ZONING & LIMITED HOURS. TOWN CLERK DEFINES POSITION. Masterton householders must now observe further hosing restrictions, in view of a serious shortage of water in higher levels of the town. “The attention of all householders is drawn to the notice appearing in the advertising columns introducing watering restrictions by daily zoning and limited hours, similar to those enforced last summer throughout the borough,” said the Town Clerk, Mr G. T. O'Hara Smith, in giving an outline of the position. “It was at first anticipated that when night hosing was prohibited by advertisement a few days ago that this would have resulted in sufficient limitation in hosing to enable the higher residential levels to retain an unrestricted domestic supply, at least while the water main lining work was being completed for the time being. This restriction, however, has not had the desired effect and it is quite apparent that many householders in the lower residential levels have been hosing indiscriminately, both by day and night, which has had the effect of restricting and in some cases stopping altogether the domestic water services to those living on higher levels. In view of this waste of water through indiscriminate hosing there can be only one remedy and that is to impose further hosing restrictions by zoning and restricted hours of hosing. This will now be enforced throughout the borough until further notice. No exception will be made in instituting prosecutions against anyone who is detected of hosing outside the allotted hours and days. The contractors for the concrete lining of the water mains are now closing down their operations for the time being in view of the increased demand for water owing to summer conditions and will resume their work in March or April of next year.”
