EKETAHUNA

FIRE BRIGADE MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS (“Times-Age" Special.) The monthly meeting of the Ekeahuna Fire Brigade was held last night. Superintendent H. E. Rogers presiding over a good attendance of members and honorary members. Accounts amounting to £2 Bs. were passed for payment. The Superintendent extended a welcome to the new messenger. Mr. G. Daniel.

Fireman H. Gyde gave an interesting report on the recent Gold Star presentation function held recently at Waipukurau. for which he was thanked.

Three nominations were received to fill a vacancy of fireman in the brigade.

After a brief discussion it was decided to hold a Christmas Tree for the children of members and honorary members on December 19, and a committee consisting of Fireman F. West, H. Leslie and S. Daniel was appointed make arrangements for the same. It was decided to make application to the Borough Council for the halfyearly grant. It was resolved that the usual Christmas greeting telegrams be sent to neighbouring brigades. A committee consisting of Fireman R. Fafeita, Superintendant Rogers, and the secretary was appointed to finalise arrangements for the annual New Year’s Eve dance. The proceeds of the effort will be donated to the Eketahuna Patriotic Fund. The Supt. -extended to members seasonal greetings, and there were heartily reciprocated.

At the conclusion of the business a social was held, when the opportunitv was taken to present Fireman J. H. Ryan with a gold bar, he having completed 27 years service with the brigade. Supt. Rogers, in making the presentation, congratulated Fireman Ryan and said that he hoped that he would long be spared to carry on his good work. The health of Fireman Ryan was drunk after which he briefly replied.

Several toasts were honoured and an enjoyable gathering closed with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
