LINER REQUISITIONED
MAY BE USED IN PURSUIT OF RAIDER. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MANILA. December 2. Travellers from Hong Kong said that the British Government has requisitioned the liner Empress of Russia, which will sail on Thursday evening. All the passengers have been put ashore and it is reported that the liner will be used as an auxiliary cruiser to hunt for a German raider in the South Pacific. The Empress of Russia is very speedy but unarmed. However, United States naval officials are of the opinion that she could be heavily armed with 4in guns, with the facilities at Hong Kong, within two weeks.
