Air Force Applicants.
Wairarapa applicants for service in the air force appeared before the examining board in Masterton today. A Territorial Appeal. With reference to a Territorial service appeal by the Masterton Chib heard by the Masterton Man 1 ower Committee on Monday, it is explained that all that the club asked was that the calling up of an employee should be postponed from January next until February, in order that another employee might be given his annual holiday.
Patriotic Queen Carnival. What is probably a record for New Zealand on a population basis was achieved by the Pahiatua and district "lieart-to-Heart” appeal which took the form of a Queen carnival, concluding last night, a total of £4658 17s 3d being raised. Four district queens contested for the honour and Mangataincka.'s candidate (Miss Reichenbach) secured a substantial margin of votes. Details of the voting were as follow: Mangatainoka (Miss Reichenbach) 297,577: Central (Miss B. Merric) 249.679: Koninif Miss L. Woods) 226.270; Ballance and Makomako (Miss Day) 190.174; Makuri (Miss Rutherford) 179.394. The winning candidate raised £1219 and the last candidate £741 13s. The Pahiatua quota was £3OOO.
