CALVES & LAMBS

MASTERTON GROUP JUDGING BOYS AND GIRLS’ AGRICULTURAL CLUB CONTEST. GOOD TYPE OF EXHIBITS. The judging of the calves and fat lambs entered in the Masterton group of the Boys and Girls’ Agricultural Club competition took place in fine weather at the Solway Showgrounds today. There was a good attendance. A cup donated by Woolworths (Masterton) for the champion calf and presented by Mr G. H. Perry to the winner, was won by Helen Patrick (Te Whiti). “In general the exhibits were a beautiful type and were in a condition which reflected the greatest possible credit on the children,” commented the judge of the fat lambs, Mr T. V. Caverhill. Mr W. Moore (Homebush), who judged the calves, also commented favourably on the way the children had reared and handled the animals.

A committee headed by Mr L. A. Keats (president) and Nir R. J. Berry (secretary) capably conducted the competitions. The results of the judging are as follow: — Fat Lambs. Best black face lamb: Joan Gibbs (Opaki) 1; Elizabeth McKay (Lansdowne) 2; Peter Kerins (Fernridge) 3; Nola Crewe (Te Whiti) 4. Best white face lamb: Mavis Cottle (Kopuaranga) 1; Helen McGregor (Lansdowne) 2; Peter McGillivray (Lansdowne) 3; D. Milson (Mauriceville East) 4. Calves. Dairy type: Joan Cottle (Kopuaranga) 1; Kathleen Brophy (Kopuaranga) 2; Shirley Bradley (Te Whiti) 3; Noreen Kerins (Fernridge) 4. Other breeds: Helen Patrick (Te Whiti) 1; S.
