IN OTHER CENTRES

Wellington.—Though the wickets were the fastest enjoyed this season, weak batting marked the first day’s play in the fourth series of the Wellington Cricket Association's senior championship competition on Saturday, when ideal weather prevailed. Hutt and Kilbirnie had an exciting contest for the first innings honours, Hutt coming out on top by the narrow margin of three runs. Good bowling by Lemin and J. Ashenden saw Hutt fall for 123, but, small as was this total, Kilbirnie failed to reach it, being dismissed for 120. Wellington found the bowling of Whyte and. J. Lamason too good for them, and could only scrape 105 together. Wellington College Old Boys replied with 240 (L. V. Browne 85). Wellington had 26 .on without loss in their second innings. Institute had all the better of their game with University, hitting up 259. and then dismissing the students for 74. Dalton scored 96 not out for Institute. Boddy secured five wickets for 19 runs for Institute. Low scoring marked the match between Midland and Karori. Midland were without the services of their two best batsmen, W. Hepburn and R. Crawford, who have been suspended for two playing Saturdays by the cricket association for failing to give satisfactory reasons for refusing to play for Town against Country on November 23 and 25. -Midland could only total 117. Karori, however, could only total 100. Midland made amends by putting on 73 runs for no wickets in their second innings. H. W.
