PATRIOTIC FUNDS

GALA AT MASTERTON ON SATURDAY. An all schools’ gala day in aid of the Patriotic appeal will be held in the Masterton Park on Saturday, December 7, commencing at 2.15 o’clock. Children from the Te Ore Ore, Hadlow, St. Matthew’s, St. Bride’s Convent, Wairarapa College, Solway, Lansdowne, Central and West schools will be among those taking part. The Masterton Municipal Band will be in attendance. The usual stalls have been arranged and patrons are assured of receiving worth for their money from the purchase of mystery parcels on sale. A fancy dress parade, Maori dances and hakas,' pets’ race, drill and folk dancing are included in the excellent programme which has been arranged. ' It is anticipated that the public will play their part in the appeal by attending in large numbers.. Further particulars are advertised on Page 1 of this issue.

“Why is it that so many women will persist in making themselves five years younger than they really are?” asks a playwright. Perhaps it’s because they didn't learn to count until they were five.
